andrew CROFTS

Andrew Crofts is a lighting, video, technical and gaming designer who's work is seen nationally and internationally with a variety of theatre, dance and pervasive gaming companies.

Most notably he is the lighting and technical designer for the Leeds based theatre company imitating the dog (ITD); his work with ITD also includes video programing and operation. Andrew has been a part of the development and touring of ITD work including: ‘Hotel Methuselah’, ‘Kellerman’, ‘Six Degrees Below The Horizon’, ‘The Zero Hour’ as well as collaborative projects with Oldham Coliseum including ‘Hounds of the Baskerville’ and ‘Tunnel Visions’. Andrew also works on ITD’s architectural mapping projects  that have included work commissioned for Magic Lounge About and Light Up Lancaster at The Music Rooms.

He is a founding member of the Manchester based gaming company The Larks who create gaming experiences in public spaces combining the spectacle of theatre with the agency of play. Their work has been presented at or commissioned by  igFest (Bristol), Play Publik (Berlin), Stockton International Arts Festival, Contact Theatre (Manchester), Manchester Science Festival,  The Digital Fiction Factory & Film4.0, Manchester Histories Festival and has toured to venues in the UK and Europe. The Larks also host regular events in Manchester where other designers show and develop their work.

Andrew also house been an in-house technician at Manchester’s greenroom and Contact theatres as well as being a technician on events such as Decibel, Hazard and Manchester Jazz Festival. For LAN-West/hAb Andrew has done re-lighting, lighting design and production management of ‘In Transit’ and ‘Turn Out’.

Working with dance artist Bridget Fiske he has designed ‘Red Rain’ presented as part of  Midnight Special a series of events by Mercy at the Liverpool Biennial and ‘On The Wire’ for The Lowry Digitfest and Modulate. He has also delivered in the areas of dance and digital technologies at The Place and Roehampton University.
